Graduated from Medicine at McGill University, Dr. Poirier went on to complete a residency in the Royal College Program in Emergency Medicine. He followed with a one-year Fellowship in Aviation Medicine, including time spent with Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society in Alberta and with the Canadian Forces where he received his Flight Surgeon and his Hyperbaric Medicine Level 1 and 2 certifications.
Dr. Poirier also trained with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) and with the Southern California Safety Institute in Aircraft Accident Investigation.
Dr. Poirier is a Medical Examiner for Transport Canada, Senior Medical Advisor for Air Canada and Medical Consultant for Air Transat. He is the co-founder of the Onboard Medical Emergencies course that teaches how to manage in-flight medical emergencies. He is an Assistant Professor at McGill University and works as an Emergency Physician at the McGill University Health Centre.
